This has been our last week at the Cahors campsite, although we won’t be very far away when we move along the river. We wandered into town again for market day (where face masks are now obligatory rather than optional) and another vide-grenier/brocante in the centre of town. There seem to be a regular group of dealers who tout their wares at different village brocantes as we’ve certainly seen some of the goods before.
As we pass the Sainte Etienne cathedral we go in to have a look at the interior and the beautiful external cloister with its ‘secret’ garden. It’s a cool and tranquil spot, very much hidden away and giving some different views of the cathedral. The interior has beautifully decorated cupolas and a variety of stained glass windows including some more modern ones. The next day when we climb back up to Mont St Cyr the cathedral’s cloister garden isn’t even visible, tucked in amongst the historic centre of town.
We can’t leave Cahors without a picture of Pont Valentré at night, so I cycle over there at nightfall to get the shots. As it’s still 37C at that time there are plenty of people milling about and several photographers hoping to get their perfect snap. The bridge is floodlit, so we’ll worth the cycle in my opinion.
As a postscript to the ‘donkey’ blog, Joe admitted he had had a dream the night before in which the company hiring the donkeys presented us with two goats. Claire told him not to make a fuss and that they were probably just a small type of Cahors donkey whilst Joe tried to insist we were were being fobbed off with goats, exclaiming ‘but they’ve got b****y horns!’ Imagine his relief to see a full-sized hornless Mouton!
VERY well worth the cycle ride!
The cathedral is beautiful. I meant it when I said you should think abaout doing a book on your return!
I clicked on ‘see all comments’, but nothing is shown.
Safe journey to your next camp site.
Love from us both.
Hi Mary I don’t see the ‘See all comments’ on my Phone or IPad version of the blog, so not sure if you’re reading it on a PC? I can just see the comments against each individual post. You can be my editor! C xx
